National Teen Driver Safety Week.

Getting a driver’s license is an exciting milestone for teenagers. But it's important to remember that car accidents remain the leading cause of death among teens. This year, National Teen Driver Safety Week takes place from October 20th to October 26th raising awareness about young drivers' dangers and promoting solutions to help prevent accidents.

Hupy and Abraham want to ensure that your teenager is safe on the road. Here are some rules of the road for parents to address with their teens.

Always wear a seatbelt. Seatbelts cut the risk of death and serious injury by 50%. Remind your teens that no matter how short the trip or who’s behind the wheel, they should always buckle up whenever they’re in a car.

Don’t text and drive. Encourage your teen to silence their phone and store it out of reach while driving. Lead by example as a parent by also keeping your phone put away. Stress the importance of this rule and the serious consequences of ignoring it.

Remind them to monitor their speed. Speed limits exist for safety, so teach them to follow them closely. Teach them about keeping a car length distance to ensure they have time to stop and respond to other cars in time to prevent accidents.

Hupy and Abraham is committed to preventing teen automobile accidents. To help remind your teen driver and others to be safe behind the wheel by not texting and driving, get them a free “DNT TXT N DRV” bumper sticker here.
