Driving in the Rain: Stay Safe with These Essential Tips.

Below are essential tips to help you stay safe when driving in the rain.

Rainy Weather Driving Tips

  1. Slow down: Wet roads reduce traction and increase stopping distance. Driving too fast can cause hydroplaning, so reduce speed to stay in control.
  2. Turn on your Headlights: Use headlights -- and fog lights if available – to improve visibility. By law, taillights must be on when headlights are used to prevent rear-end collisions.
  3. Keep a Safe Distance: Increase the following distance to at least four seconds in the rain. Wet roads make sudden stops harder.
  4. Use Middle Lanes: Water pools in outer lanes. Stick to the middle lanes, when possible, to lower hydroplaning risks and avoid debris.
  5. Maintain Your Vehicle: Check tires for tread wear and proper inflation. Replace worn windshield wipers to ensure clear visibility.
  6. Driving with Astigmatism: Blurred vision in low-light conditions makes rain drive tougher. Keep glasses or contacts clean and updated for safer driving.
