August 6, 2017, marked the Milwaukee Community Journal’s 41st Annual Dr. Terence N. Thomas Scholarship Fund Brunch. Hupy and Abraham, S.C. was a major sponsor of the event and attended with guests of the firm. Those guests included Monte Mabra of “Voice of the Fatherless Child” and Brandon Culpepper of Peppnation, both Milwaukee based nonprofits.
The scholarship brunch theme this year was “Millennial Magic,” which focused on the role that particular generation has in our society. The MCJ representatives pointed out that “it takes a village” to improve and model new youth, and that millennials are the key to providing worthwhile examples for them.
Larry Waters, Director of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship for the Opportunity Funding Corporation, stated that there is no better investment than an investment in the future. The event included remarks from millennial students, a fashion show covering the style of various generations and the brunch meal.
Afterward, a keynote was given, followed by a spotlight on the event’s honorees who were thanked for their commitment to Milwaukee’s community. Finally, the scholarship recipients were highlighted and awarded for their hard work.
The Milwaukee Community Journal has been known as the vanguard of civil rights for more than three decades and has grown into the largest circulated and most influential black-owned newspaper in Wisconsin. Hupy and Abraham, S.C. is a proud sponsor of this event and the Milwaukee Community Journal for all that it does in the Milwaukee area.
